Description
GVExc. Without irrigation, much of California's Central Valley is basically dry. But along the winding rivers bringing precious water from the mountains, natural woodlands can flourish. ("riparian" just means river) These old oaks, cottonwoods and sycamores can achieve a diameter of eight feet. This is at Caswell State Park, on the Stanislaus River. Only 5% of California's riparian woodlands remain.
